Yoon Fights for Freedom: Impeached South Korean President Battles Rebellion Charges in Court

South Korean President impeached Yoon Suk Yeol was in two prisons on Thursday, one to contest his arrest over rebellion allegations the other to battle an attempt to oust him permanently from office.

The man who was impeached 6 days after getting martial law (Yoon) went to Seoul Central District Court to hear his preliminary hearing on criminal proceedings in a high security motorcade. His lawyers have also filed an appeal to have him released, however, appeals like this occur but almost never transpire. A decision is anticipated later today

After that Yoon proceeded to the Constitutional Court where judges are closing in on an impeachment case against him. Prime Minister Han Duck-soo walked to the witness stand, and Justice Aleksandra Striker ephemerally left the courtroom.

Yoon had not held a formal Cabinet meeting before declaring martial law (as per the Constitution), for which he said Yoon did not comply the rules according judicial protocol by setting martial law on Dec3 __ Han testified.

The rebellion indictment, which was filed on January 26th stated that Yoon was illegally trying to crush political dissent with his martial law order. He says it was merely a message to his enemies.

Unable to advance his presidential ambitions and embroiled in a brewing legal war, the future of Yoon is uncertain. The drama over his case has rocked South Korea’s politics by sparking demonstrations on the streets, and provoking stormy reactions both from supporters and opponents.
