United Airlines Flight Aborts Takeoff in Houston After Engine Fire; Passengers Safely Evacuated

The passengers of United Airlines Flight 1382 faced terrifying conditions on Sunday (February 2, 2025) when their right wing engine started to smoke before flames erupted immediately after takeoff. The Airbus A319 heading to LaGuardia Airport in New York City encountered an emergency stop at George Bush Intercontinental Airport soon after 8:30 a.m. as per the reports from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

A KPRC-TV obtained video recording from a passenger displayed orange flames together with smoke that emerged from the wing during the aircraft’s runway movement. Someone in the background pleaded repeatedly for help to escape from the situation. All passengers (104) and crew members (5) survived the emergency evacuation procedure which utilized both slides and stairs. Terminal personnel transported all passengers by bus when they returned to the airport.

United Airlines secured another aircraft to continue transportation to New York City during 2:00 p.m. CT. The Federal Aviation Administration launched an investigation towards this incident because of widespread flight safety worries triggered by the accidents that occurred during earlier this year.

During January in Washington D.C. an American Airlines jet crashed into an Army helicopter which resulted in the death of all 67 passengers. A jet airplane flew into a Philadelphia residential zone after that resulting in seven fatalities. The safe conclusion of the Houston incident highlights societal worries about aircraft security while flying.
