The US has once again taken India to task for high tariffs of American goods, a whopping 150% tariff on American booze included. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, held a press briefing on March 11, 2025, where she spoke to the potential harm caused by these tariff on U.S. Exports, specifically Kentucky bourbon.
Do you think that is enhancing the exporting of Kentucky Bourbon to India? I don’t think so,” Ms. Leavitt said, examining a chart she advertised tariffs imposed by countries including India, Canada and Japan.
The graph depicted India’s 150% tax on US booze and 100% tax on farm products. Leavitt’s comments came as President Donald Trump has continued to rail about what he calls “unfair” trade by other nations. “President Trump believes in reciprocity. It is a about time we have a leader that puts American Businesses and the American worker first she said. 
The White House’s tough words escalate the discussion over the India-US trade issue. This latest move comes after Trump had repeatedly stated India was to lower tariffs, though it has not been formally confirmed, according to reports.
