U.S. Lawmakers Push to Ban China’s DeepSeek AI Over Espionage Concerns

The national security community has prompted bipartisan Congressional action to prevent DeepSeek AI software made by China from accessing state devices. The chatbot application poses a threat to national security since it is connected to the Chinese Communist Party through its source code.

The legislation appeared after U.S. Reps. Darin LaHood (R-Ill.) and Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) put forward the bill resulting from threats identified by cybersecurity firm Feroot Security. The report proves DeepSeek’s app takes user login information while concealing this action to transmit the data to Chinese government-owned China Mobile which the United States has already prohibited.

The security risk that DeepSeek poses to national protection remains extremely concerning according to LaHood. It is unsafe to permit a company linked with the Communist Party of China to gain access to sensitive government data.

Following its establishment in 2023 DeepSeek has generated important interest because the company delivers better results from AI models based in the U.S. while keeping costs substantially lower. Market sentiment regarding data security provoked brief stock market fluctuations among U.S. technology companies last week.

Cybersecurity expert Ivan Tsarynny declared it impossible to understand why the U.S. permits Chinese surveillance of Americans without doing anything about it. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

The company DeepSeek failed to answer multiple media requests for statements. The Wall Street Journal announced the legislation that exposes the escalating rivalry between the United States and China regarding artificial intelligence technology development.

A successful legislation will put DeepSeek among numerous Chinese technology companies which would be prohibited from doing business in the U.S.
