U.S. Congressmen Challenge DOJ Over Adani Indictment, Warn of India Relations Fallout

Six members of the U.S. Congress sent a bold letter to Attorney General Pamela Bondi questioning the Department of Justice investigation of a $250 million bribery case against the Adani Group. The lawmakers explained that this decision threatened to hurt vital diplomatic relations between America and India.

The Congressional representatives led by Lance Gooden and Pat Fallon and joined by Mike Haridopolos and Brandon Gill and William R. Timmons and Brian Babin denounced what they saw as untrustworthy Biden administration leadership in their written message to AG Pamela Bondi. Professional American representatives maintained that suing an Indian company over bribery charges towards Indian officials will harm diplomatic relations given there is no direct American interest involved.

The Biden DOJ took control of legal proceedings against company executives instead of allowing Indian authorities to handle the matter because no genuine American interests were harmed according to the proceedings.

According to the indictment Adani Group disguised the funds used as bribes to U.S. banks and investors during its solar power contract acquisitions. Beyond this denial stance Adani has retained independent legal experts to scrutinize the allegations set against him.

The Congressmen pointed out that they believe political motives drove the DOJ in this case to warn about geopolitical consequences. Foreign investors’ future economic partnerships could be jeopardized by excessive legal actions the letter explains describing China as the main beneficiary.

The authors warned that this incorrect legal pursuit might seriously damage the United States’ ties to India during a vital global struggle.

Global diplomatic attention focuses on Attorney General Bondi’s handling of the critical international controversy.
