Trump’s Quest for Nobel Peace Prize Hits a Roadblock Amid Ukraine Rift

President Donald Trump seems still set his sights on a Nobel Peace Prize but his widening feud with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may sink that.

Trump, who was previously twice put forward for the prestigious prize by a Norwegian parliamentarian, is unlikely to receive the award favourably as his diplomatic efforts seem to be tailing one way. His last meeting with Zelenskyy was confrontational, Trump rebuked him for not showing thanks for US military assistance.

“You’re either going to make a deal, or we’re out,” Trump allegedly told Zelenskyy in a statement that has sparked concerns that it would embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks were broken off suddenly, with the White House scrapping a joint press conference, before Trump went on to declare that Zelenskyy was no longer welcome until he was “ready for peace.”

Facing mounting backlash, Trump’s supporters are promoting his Nobel dreams. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and U.N. ambassador nominee Elise Stefanik have been boosting his efforts, portraying him as a “president of peace” who will bring peace in Europe, the Middle East, and end wars. But the Nobel committee’s emphasis on diplomacy and a global stability could be trouble for Trump’s run, especially if his approach is seen as pro-Russian.

As Trump remains on the heels of fame from the elite, the world holds its breaths—will his legacy be one of farming that Nobel Peace Prize, or will his attachments retard into an unwelcome aim?
