Trump’s Immigration Crackdown Sparks Controversy Amid Mass Deportation Plans

Under President Donald Trump a vast immigration reform effort took place with a promise to remove “millions and millions of criminal aliens.” Immediately following his swearing-in the president launched measures which threatened border entry for millions of undocumented migrants and asylum seekers.

Trump accuses Joe Biden’s administration of allowing 15-20 million illegal immigrants entry into the U.S. but official calculations indicate 11-14 million undocumented migrants currently live in the country among which 2.1 lakh are Indian nationals (2012 statistics). Extensive research shows that undocumented aliens who entered the United States numbered more than 80 percent prior to 2010 but many of them had spent multiple decades living in America.

Trump DISMISSED important immigration court staff resulting in approximately 3 million pending cases now being stuck in backlog. The CBP One mobile application used by asylum seekers to submit claims was terminated by the federal government.

Under the new bill authorities can now arrest undocumented immigrants without restriction using broad new detention authority that allows the removal of people even for petty offenses such as stealing. Contrary to Trump’s claims undocumented migrants commit less violent offenses than native American people in the United States according to research.

The new clampdown threatens to interrupt key economic sectors such as construction and agriculture and hospitality which operate through migrant workforce systems. In these sectors there are 5.5 million undocumented workers who maintain vital operations that could face a severe economic downturn along with workforce shortages if deportation campaigns continue.

The U.S. confronts multiple sides of immigration reform that will establish future national policies through a threefold battle regarding security and economic interests and human rights protection.
