US President Donald Trump unexpectedly put a hold on Chinese duty impositions for small packages following his sudden decision to abolish duty-free preferences for items valued at under $800 which created broad confusion for government institutions and the US Postal Service.
Package delivery operations from China were briefly suspended by the postal service because of the first directive before the service restored delivery service the following day. Customers from the US scrambled to understand their Shein and Temu purchases because these online retailers heavily depended on the low-value import exemption.
Trump introduced his first trade policy related to Chinese goods while working toward raising Chinese product tariffs by 10% beginning on February 4. The changes would be postponed until the collection of efficient tariff revenues becomes operational according to Trump’s Friday update. 
The new policy switch from Trump occurred following other numerous rapid changes since his presidential inauguration last month despite facing multiple legal and logistical complications. The president declared a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada goods before he delayed the policy for one month to continue negotiations.
Trump revealed during his forthcoming speech next week that he plans to enforce “reciprocal tariffs” on different nations based on their present import restrictions against US products.
Administrators have focused their attention on the de minimis exemption since e-commerce demand continues to increase. The Biden administration supported tighter trade regulations during the previous year based on its goal to provide US companies with fair competition. Annual de minimis package deliveries reaching over 1.3 billion in the United States indicate the ongoing dispute about these exemptions.
