U.S. President Donald Trump made a deeply controversial remark to Vice President JD Vance before his upcoming meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about Ukraine being potentially destined to become Russian one day. Trump directed federal news broadcast Fox News to discuss his strategic use of American assistance to Ukraine with expectations that Ukraine would provide its supply of rare minerals in return.
From Mr. Trump’s point of view U.S. aid required Ukrainian natural resources valued at $500 billion thereby he declared “We are going to have all this money in there, and I say I want it back.” The president announced through his interview that special envoy Keith Kellogg would soon travel to Ukraine to establish proposals that could resolve the ongoing war against Russia which has lasted almost three years. Kellogg plans his arrival on February 20 scheduled a few days before the upcoming anniversary of the invasion.
Zelensky plans to meet Vance this Friday during the Munich Security Conference and still demands “real peace and effective security guarantees” for Ukraine. Zelensky emphasized NATO membership or concerted peacekeeping forces because they will stop Russia from forming new battle plans against Ukraine.
Associate administration official Trump seeks fast results about the conflict but Zelensky wants full-fledged military protection commitments. During this time Russia expands its control in eastern Ukraine by focusing its military operations on destabilizing energy systems while seizing additional territory. The Munich summit between Zelensky and U.S. officials will discuss the intensifying conflict without Russian participation.
