Trump Reiterates Desire for Greenland, Calls Denial by Denmark “Unfriendly Act”

During his presidency Donald Trump brought attention back to his disputable plan of acquiring Greenland by claiming the island belongs in American possession. The president told reporters during his Saturday appearance that “I think we’re going to have it.” In my opinion the people across Greenland wish to join our nation. There are around 55,000 people currently residing in this area. They want to be with us.”

During a heated discussion with Prime Minister Frederiksen Trump described Danish refusal to sell Greenland to American ownership as an unfriendly decision while noting protective measures for the free world would form the purpose of such an acquisition.

“I don’t know what Denmark’s claim is on this territory but they would adopt a hostile stance if they prevent Greenland’s handover because this move means protecting the free world,” Trump declared. While emphasizing Arctic geopolitics he identified rising tensions where Russia and China conduct operations in this region.

Greenland which maintains autonomous status under Denmark has become the focal point of scéamatic planning by U.S. President Donald Trump. The new plan emerged after Trump made previous statements regarding Canadian territory along with the Panama Canal which generated extensive international controversy.

The U.S. president explained to the media that Greenlander citizens sought independent leadership from what they perceived as Danish mismanagement of governing affairs. He argued U.S. administration would offer both improved security prospects for Greenlanders and enhanced security along global frontiers. The acquisition of Greenland matches national freedom requirements according to Trump.

The Danish authorities have signaled their openness to American dialogue about Arctic issues yet maintain that Greenland will stay under Denmark’s sovereignty.
