President Donald Trump signaled to reporters he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin “very soon” while foreign diplomats boost their efforts to find a solution that would end the Ukrainian war three years after its start.
According to reporters after he arrived in Florida Trump revealed top-level talks between Washington and Moscow under the direction of Secretary of State Marco Rubio continue. The U.S. delegation plans to reach a peace agreement breakthrough by meeting with Russian officials in Riyadh.
During his talks with Russian leader Putin Steve Witkoff successfully determined that Putin wants peace according to Trump. The three-hour-long meeting serves as a Russian assessment process to determine their willingness to end the current conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy doubts Russia due to his belief that Moscow would use any sign of NATO weakness to advance its interests. During the interview Trump confirmed that President Putin together with President Zelenskyy seek a swift termination of the conflict.
Prior to the Riyadh discussions Rubio expressed doubt about how simple it would be to end the war. According to the leader’s address at the Munich Security Conference a peaceful process cannot be achieved through a solitary event.
The forthcoming discussions have intensified conflicts between NATO allies after Trump and Putin conducted a phone call which led them to agree on starting ceasefire negotiations. Ukraine demands participation in any peace settlement because it was excluded from the initial discussion on this matter.
The international community observes whether Trump’s rapid approach to peace agreements will produce tangible results or result in intensified diplomatic conflict.
