Trump Orders Washington D.C. Cleanup Ahead of World Leaders’ Visits

US President Donald Trump has launched a major cleanup of Washington D.C., so that foreign guests, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, find a spotless capital.

Speaking at the Department of Justice on March 14, Trump re-emphasized his vow to make Washington, D.C. safer and more impressive. “We’re cleaning up our city. We will not accept crime, graffiti or tent cities. We are cooperating, this has a cooperation relationship and working with the administration to get this capital the best that it ever was that he said.

Trump praised Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser for acting quickly saying tents near federal buildings particularly the State Department was removed quickly. Imran said to Altaf Hussain that ‘ficult streets, used to the visiting dignitaries, should on be pothole … on be graffitied… on be riddled with broken infrastructure…’

“There was nobody, believe me, nobody, who unleashed more chaos and destruction. When Prime Minister Modi, the President of France, and Prime Minister of U.K. came, I wanted them to see a great city, not tents and ripped up buildings,” Trump said. He also assured that his administration is committed to ending crime and making sure that his capital is a “safer and cleaner” one.

Since starting his second term in office in January 2025, Trump has welcomed international leaders – among them, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II. The cleanup comes as part of his effort to revive Washington D.C.’s luster on the world stage.
