Trump Dismisses Yemen Chat Leak as ‘Minor Glitch’; Adviser Waltz Accepts Blame

President Donald Trump on Tuesday dismissed worries on Tuesday about a blunder that put a journalist in a Signal group messaging service about U.S. military plans against Yemen’s Houthi rebels. It was a minor glitch, Trump said, but it was the only misstep by his administration in the last two months on the handling of sensitive data.

The scandal stemmed from a revelation by The Atlantic that National Security Adviser Mike Waltz inadvertently put the publication”s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, into a chat with 18 other top administration officials. The messages said to contain details on weapons, targets and timing of strikes.

“Michael Waltz learned a nice lesson, and he’s a nice man,” Trump told NBC News while placing some of the blame on a nameless aide. Waltz ‘took complete responsibility’ on FoxNews for being ‘wrong’ adding ‘we made a mistake’. We’re moving forward.”

Contrary to statements from Waltz and CIA Director John Ratcliffe that no classified information was exchanged, Democratic lawmakers denounced the use of the public messaging app for discussing military actions. Senator Mark Warner stated the lack could have put life endanger if information leaked from the military to hostile groups.

In defense against increasing criticism, Trump said the administration would rely less on Signal for sensitive communications. We won’t use it very much going forward, he weighed, proposing that they will go back to secure, in person conversations for important things.
