Top Trump administration officials Secretary of State Marco Rubio along with National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff are currently flying to Saudi Arabia to begin peace talks between Russia and Ukraine according to sources privy to the matter. A critical diplomatic delegation travels to Saudi Arabia after President Donald Trump maintained telephone discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy which focused on concluding the ongoing conflict.
The officials did not reveal the precise timing of their departure while the Trump administration continues its determined efforts to find a solution. According to a Truth Social post Trump confirmed that negotiations between the parties would begin right away in his latest update.
The discussions take place while Vice President JD Vance and other U.S. representatives meet at the Munich Security Conference to address the developing crisis. Speaking at the conference Zelenskyy stressed Ukraine’s position as the essential central element for any peace agreement by stating “No decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine.” US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg suggested Russia Ukrainiana and the United States would serve as the main parties in upcoming negotiations according to his assessment European allies would play only a secondary role.
Kellogg denied the criticism toward engaging with Putin but the administration maintains an unclear stance towards Russian concessions. Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary proposed Ukraine should give up control of Russian-held territory since he deemed pre-2014 borders impossible to restore.
Global observers monitor Saudi Arabia’s peace talks which might represent a turning point in the war but multiple doubts persist regarding Ukraine’s stance and any resulting stability.
