The crowd crush at New Delhi Railway Station during late Saturday night proved fatal for 15 people while causing injuries to multiple train travelers as officials confirmed Sunday. Thousands of devotees who planned to attend the Maha Kumbh festival in northern India faced catastrophe during their attempt to board trains.
Atishi the current acting chief minister of Delhi said authorities transported the dead bodies to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narain Hospital. Large groups of people breaking into the festivities through train access points led to the disastrous stampede that exposed the overwhelmed infrastructure capacity of the mega-event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi communicated his profound sadness through X regarding the stampede while expressing his sympathy to the victims’ families accompanied by prayers for quick recovery of the injured. My prayers are focused on mourners who lost family members during the stampede as I wish a quick recovery to those injured. The authorities are currently rendering support to every individual who suffered during the incident. 
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered an investigation into the origin of the stampede while officials ask whether proper crowd control and safety protocols were implemented. A second fatal stampede has hit the country after the Maha Kumbh festival killed 30 people during its last occurrence.
The Maha Kumbh draws numerous tens of millions of Hindus who come to bathe in holy rivers thus cleansing their sins. The sizeable gathering of people puts stress on existing resources which results in safety issues.
The grieving nation demands more robust measures to control crowds and upgrade infrastructure because people want to avoid more future disasters at massive events.
