A devastating boating wreck near Breezy Point, Queens, has resulted in three people killed and two found hurt after their boat flipped in the icy waters of the Ambrose Channel on Sunday, authorities confirmed.
Emergency units from the New York Fire Department (FDNY), New York Police Department (NYPD) and U.S. Coast Guard were sent out on a distress call at about noon. According to officials, six people were sent into the water when their boat capsized.
Rescue teams quickly extracted five of the casualties from the water and loaded them into nearby ambulances as they were taken to nearby hospitals. Three of them unfortunately died from their injuries. One survivor is listed in critical condition, the other is stable. Additionally, Police Report a sixth person is still unaccounted for, it’s prompting an ongoing Coast Guard search, a little bit over five miles southeast of Breezy Point.
The authorities have not released the names of the deceased or the cause of the overturning. The Coast Guard said there was no signs they had a accident with no one vessel for every vessel, but preliminary reports suggested your boat were “taking on water” just before it flooded.
