TikTok Makes a Comeback in US App Stores After Trump’s Intervention

TikTok reappeared in US Apple and Google app stores when Donald Trump postponed implementing his ban on the Chinese-owned platform. Over 170 million Americans who use the app experienced its short disappearance from US app stores during the time of the looming ban.

The executive order issued by Trump gave TikTok 75 more days to meet requirements of the law that would allow the platform to stay active without a forced sale to an independent party. Lawmakers supported the ban which President Joe Biden signed due to fears that Chinese intelligence and political manipulation activities could happen through TikTok despite both TikTok and China denying these allegations.

The Trump administration provided Apple and Google with assurances that defined their legal liability regarding TikTok downloads and the service was brought back to their platforms. The application reappeared with an acknowledgement message thanking Trump by his full name as a surprise supporter of the platform.

The former president Trump who means to ban TikTok developed a positive sentiment for the app because it assisted him in his successful 2020 presidential campaign. The presidential candidate has put forward a new plan which involves TikTok sharing ownership with both U.S. government entities and private financial entities. A list of potential TikTok buyers includes IT giant Larry Ellison of Oracle alongside entrepreneur Elon Musk as well as YouTube video creator MrBeast.

The future of TikTok remains unclear after it started operations again while essential legal disputes alongside political matters continue to establish its US-based presence.
