In a shocking surge in violence, Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have killed over 200 civilians, including women, children and, in the past three days, attacked villages in White Nile state, Amnesty International reported on Tuesday.
The RC SF, in wide looting and massacre in Al-Kadaris and Al-Khelwat villages since February 15 to 17, despite the absence of military units. The assault consisted of executions, kidnappings, enforced disappearances and grand theft.
The far-right groups, too, opened fire on people trying to flee across the Nile River into Sudan, several drowning en-route in a bid to escape. The lawyer organization calls for the attack to be known as “genocide”.
A Nation in Crisis
Sudan has been plunged into a devastating conflict since April 2023 when a power struggle between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, commander of the RSF, broke out into the open-fisted fighting. The conflict has caused tens of thousands of deaths, displaced around 12 million people, and set in motion one of the worst humanitarian crises ever.
The United Nations has reported the number of Sudanese children at risk of acute malnutrition to be more than 3 million, further contributing to the dire circumstances. Both belligerentes impute of war crimes and rights of person violence.
With violence escalating international action is being demanded to stop further atrocities and address growing humanitarian disaster in Sudan.
