A KF-16 fighter jet of South Korean Air Force accidentally released eight MK-82 bombs in a wrong place outside its target point during a live-firing drill on Thursday, caused eight people injured and extensive property damage.

Six civilians and two soldiers were injured, with four civilian including two Thai and one Myanmar injured critically, the Pocheon disaster response center. All the casualties are currently receiving treatment at the nearby hospitals.
Assessment showed that damage was inflicted to three houses, a Catholic church and a greenhouse sustained structural damage although none of them directly hit by bombs. Responders discovered debris scattered throughout the affected area, frightening residents, who subsequently received an emergency call out.
South Korean Air Force apologized officially, pledged compensation for the victims, and granted an in-depth investigation on faulty. “We are very sorry for this incident and are working hard to determine the cause that it may be prevented in the future,” stated.
The authorities are conducting an investigation into the technical and procedural causes of the incident and officials stressed that safety procedures need reworked in future drills.
