A devastating plane crash hit a Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, suburb late Saturday evening as a small aircraft crashed into a home, a residential neighborhood. All passengers onboard were killed, but oddly the house occupants all survived.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the single-engine SOCATA TBM7 plane was taking off from Des Moines International Airport and headed to Anoka County-Blaine Airport when it crashed. Eyewitnesses recall the terrifying moment during which the aircraft became airborne before crashing into a house.
Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway said the impact caused a huge fire that engulfed the house, flames shooting out of the home. Firefighters came on the scene quickly, working a “fully involved structure fire.” Despite the damage, everyone in the home got out unhurt.
Local authorities have not definitively said how many people were on board but officials report that there were no survivors. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has begun investigating the crash’s cause.
Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz told the public that his team is closely watching the situation and assisting responders.
The incident is piling pressure on aviation safety concerns as experts try to establish whether mechanical failure and/or weather were a contributing factor.
