Sheikh Hasina Vows Justice as Mujib’s Historic Home Demolished; Calls Bangladesh ‘Land of Terrorists

Sheikh Hasina delivered an intense online speech from New Delhi where she confronted the disassembly of 32 Dhanmondi which previously served as her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historical residence by calling the events a “game of destruction” while declaring Bangladesh exists as a “land of terrorists and fighters.” A live-stream on Awami League’s website showcased Prime Minister Hasina delivering a nearly hour-long speech after the mob demolished the historic 32 Dhanmondi residence early on February 6, 2025 while police stood by.

Hasina denounced the interim government of Yunus for lacking constitutional legitimacy while simultaneously causing the damage to the monument. She accused Yunus of coming to power through “money power” that resulted in her forced departure from Bangladesh after the August 5, 2024 arrest of her government. Some people may destroy our home yet we possess the power to reconstruct it again. She pronounced both Bangladesh and herself will rise again by carrying out an important assignment in the following days.

Surroundings of the building demolition witnessed Islamist flag-raising which resulted in widespread public outrage. In her statement Hasina declared the event as an extension of the plot which resulted in Mujib’s death during the 1975 period. According to the Awami League the government in power provided amnesty to those who committed the attack.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has maintained silence regarding both the attack and Hasina’s speech although it represents a major development during her six-month stay in India. Hasina delivered an emotional war time appeal to activate her party’s student branch so they could recover Bangladesh’s historical heritage.
