With the hospitalization in Rome’s Policlinico Agostino Gemelli for treatment of pneumonia still underway, Pope Francis appears to be making a road to recovery, the Vatican reported on Wednesday.
Medical records show there could be a “slight decline” in his inflammatory markers which are indicating treatments is working. In spite of his health, the 87 years old pontiff has returned to limited activities, reading the newspapers and working with his closest assistants.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni saw him in the afternoon and described him, later on, as “well, and responsive.” Sha added, “We laughed as always. He has not lost that old sense of humour.”
The Vatican had earlier said that Francis was suffering from a polymicrobial infection in both lungs, which made it difficult to receive treatment. He was diagnosed as having bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis with the necessity treatment of corticosteroids and a variety of antibiotics.
Francis has undergone various health issues in past few years, including respiratory infections and surgeries on diverticulitis and hernia. Though he is frail, he continues to lead the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.
Vatican has not made public when he will be released.
