Pope Francis Battles Health Crisis: Vatican Confirms Double Pneumonia and Kidney Concerns

Pope Francis is still in critical condition as he struggles with double pneumonia and kidney problems, the Vatican said on Sunday. The 88-year-old pontiff is still covered in oxygen therapy and medical treatment by Rome’s Gemelli Hospital where more than two weeks ago, on February 14, he was admitted.

Doctors later diagnosed Francis with pneumonia in both lungs, which resulted in a respiratory crisis that needed oxygen help and a blood transfusion. Despite his weakened health, the Vatican said that the pope had had a stable night and had not experienced any recurrence of respiratory одним.

Further to concerns, medical records indicate mild renal insufficiency, Vatican officials said it remains in control. Francis, famous for his fire, attended the Holy Mass right from his hospital bed, symbolising his unbreakable faith.

On his social media, Pope Benedict XVI thanked the numerous prayers and messages of good will which he has had particularly from children. Thank thank you for your closeness and comforting prayers he wrote.

The pontiff’s health problems have been a rollercoaster ride in recent years with multiple hospitalizations for respiratory and gastro problems. Although his illness is grave, Vatican insiders still hold out hope.

As the world looks on, messages of support have come in from world leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who said the pope’s spirits are unbroken. “He still has his good sense of humour,” she noted.

For now, Pope Francis continues to be under the tight supervision of the doctors with the Vatican stressing that the road to recovery for the Holy Father will be a long one.
