Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mauritius for a 2-day State visit and was greeted by a ceremonial reception at the airport. Mauritian Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam welcomed him personally with a garland indicating the close affinity between two nations.
A top gathering of over 200 dignitaries including Deputy PM, Chief Justice, Speaker of the National Assembly and members of the diplomatic corps was out there to receive PM Modi. His visit occurs on the occasion of Mauritius National Day where he is the guest of honour.
“Landed in Mauritius. Grateful to my friend, PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, for the warm welcome. Delighted to strengthen ties & discover new paths of cooperation, PM Modi wrote on X.
With his visit, India and Mauritius would sign a string of memorandum and understanding on capacity building, trade and combating financial crimes. PM Modi will hold talks with Mauritian President Prithvirajsing Roopun (& other senior national leaders) to discuss bilaterals & global issues.
He will also open the India funded Civil Service College and an area health centre. Indian Armed Forces personnel will participate in National Day celebrations on Wednesday, (a) navy war ship and (b) the Akash Ganga elite skydiving team.
PM Modi had last visited Mauritius in 2015. Given that 70% of Mauritius’ population of Indian origin, the historical bond between the two countries is very likely to bear fruit in various sectors.
