Pakistan has suffered a diplomatic embarrassment as its ambassador to Turkmenistan, KK Wagan was denied entry in to the US and deported, despite the possession of a legal visa. The NEPA says that info was flagged by US immigration authorities as he landed in Los Angeles due to alleged “immigration objections unrecognized….”
It was reportedly claimed by Pakistani media that Mr. Wagan was visiting the US on private call today and had all the necessary travel documents. But US officials were said to have discovered a “questionable visa reference”, causing his immediate expulsion. The exact grounds for the objections are still unclear but it seems the controversy might be connected with procedural diplomatic concerns.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and senior brass have been informed about the occurrence by reports which suggest that Mr. Wagan may be called back to Islamabad for further clarification. In the meantime, the Pakistan Foreign Office has acknowledged that the diplomat made private visit to the US and the matter is under investigation.
The move comes at a particularly delicate moment for Islamabad as rumors mount about the possibility of US travel restrictions on Pakistani citizens. This incident might also tested diplomatic relations between the two countries, worrying future travel policies and diplomatic interactions.
As the situation evolves, Pakistan’s government is likely to negotiations with US officials to resolve the matter and to ascertain the cause of Mr Wagan’s expulsion.
