CEO Sam Altman of OpenAI sealed a strategic agreement with Korean tech leader Kakao which represents an extensive development in the AI competition since Chinese opponent DeepSeek entered the market.
Through the agreement with OpenAI at Kakao’s Seoul media day Kakao gained permission to include ChatGPT in its major services comprising messaging apps online banking and taxi-hailing platforms.
The advanced AI technology will serve millions of Kakao users and we will collaborate to integrate our technology across services that enhance user communication and connection methods said Altman.
Kakao CEO Shina Chung declared this partnership to represent an essential milestone toward advancing the company’s AI initiatives.
DeepSeek’s Rise and OpenAI’s Uncertainty
DeepSeek has achieved significant success by becoming the top productivity application in Apple and Google stores after its recent deal. Altman from OpenAI acknowledges the firm has not established a plan to cope with the threat emanating from Chinese AI company’s effective and cost-efficient operations.
Industry experts predict OpenAI will test and perfect global expansion plans through its operations in South Korea’s technological and highly involved market. Professor Kim Jang-hyun of Sungkyunkwan University points out that OpenAI demonstrates high attentiveness toward the impact of its DeepSeek product.
Tech Talks with Samsung & SK Hynix
During their meeting Altman pursued AI memory chip partnership opportunities with Samsung and SK Hynix for developing the next level of AI server capabilities.
OpenAI shows intent to defend its AI leadership position by establishing a presence in South Korea during an escalating worldwide technological struggle and despite increasing market competition and intellectual property concerns.
