Francesco Rivella, the genius behind Nutella has died at 97. Confirmation reports states that Rivella passed away on February 14 leaving behind a legacy of revolutionizing the confectionery industry.
Rivella had a significant role in Ferrero’s fortune, being very close to Pietro Ferrero’s son, Michele Ferrero, the brand’s proprietor. As a passionate researcher, he carefully analyzed the ingredients to develop the perfect chocolate-hazelnut blend. His research contributed to creation of Giandujot in 1946, precursor to the later refers to Nutella, household favorite over generations.
A wave of tributes came from fans around the world on Nutella, who have come to appreciate the iconic spread have turned into a breakfast staple and as a dessert.
During his time with Ferrero, he became a member of the senior team before leaving to cultivate fruit and, to his great love, pallapugno, a traditional Italian sport.
He is survived by his three sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren.
