Netanyahu Halts Prisoner Release Over Hamas’ ‘Humiliating Ceremonies’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed the delay in releasing Palestinian prisoners, stating Hamas “disgraceful ceremonies” during the hostage exchanges. The move occurred hours after Hamas handed over six Israeli hostages in accordance with a timed exchange agreed to under the Gaza ceasefire.

“In light of Hamas repeated breaches, notably the so called jubilant parades made of our hostages, it has been decided to put off the release of prisoners until those two snubbed festivities are over,” Netanyahu office said.

The dramatic rituals in which masked Hamas militants lead hostages onto the stage, make them wave to the public, and sometimes address them from the stage, have sparked outrage. On a recent handover, Hamas militants had even returned the bodies of three captives in coffins as part of a widely condemned ceremony.

The news has caused anger in the occupied West Bank where hundreds of families had gathered in anticipation of their release. Scaramucce a Ramallah dopo che Israel ha ripresi retro attacco del controllo chiusura territorio, accusando Tel Aviv per disonorare l’accordo.

Hamas has dismissed demands by the Red Cross and global organizations for private releases and shown that its actions demonstrate Palestinian defiance. The UN condemned the hostage parades in which the Kremlin referred to them as “abhorrent and cruel” on Tuesday, with human rights chief Volker Turk.

With tensions spiking, talks are to go on, but the ceasefire deal is now in doubt.
