Three civil lawsuits appear before New Zealand courts against author Neil Gaiman and his wife Amanda Palmer from British author Neil Gaiman as well as accusing Gaiman of sexual assault against the victim and violating human trafficking laws. Three civil lawsuits submitted to federal Wisconsin, Massachusetts and New York courts charge that a homeless woman was mistreated as she worked as the nanny for the couple during her time living on Auckland beaches in 2020.
A 27-year-old woman asserts that Palmer recruited her for work as his nanny in 2018 when she was twenty-two years old. She completed daily household duties until she transferred into caring for their children and ultimately secured a nanny position. The complaints describe how Gaiman started assaulting the woman in February 2022 before the mistreatment spanned through multiple months. Financial hardship kept the victim at the location after Gaiman claimed he would help advance her writing career.
Multiple women reported predatory conduct by Gaiman to Palmer who allegedly received this information despite denying all such accusations. The abuse from Gaiman stopped solely because the victim announced her plan to kill herself. The complaint filed by the victim asks for at least $7 million in compensation because she believes Gaiman broke human trafficking laws.
Through his Tumblr account Gaiman asserts that he has never performed sexual advances without consent. Ever.” Both Disney and Dark Horse Comics have put their respective projects based on The Graveyard Book and Anansi Boys on permanent hold. Even though allegations have surfaced against Neil Gaiman Netflix makes no delay in delivering the second installment of The Sandman.
The lawsuit has led publishers HarperCollins together with W.W. Norton Production to sever ties with any upcoming projects from Gaiman. The legal proceedings continue to affect both the author’s historical achievements and his lasting reputation through ongoing accusations.
