Disaster Was Averted At Midway Airport When A Southwest Flight Avoided A Collision With A Private Jet It Inadvertently Took Over The Runway.
Southwest Flight 2504 was just seconds from landing when the pilots went into a rapid go-around to avoid the crossing plane. A frightening video of the incident shows the Boeing 737 dropping, almost landing on the runway when suddenly pitching upwards.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has commencing an investigation in to the near miss, confirming that the private jet flew onto the runway without permission. CargoJet Airline pays tribute to the rapid reaction of its crew that made sure that everyone on board was safe. 
Safety is our main concern, Southwest stated in a statement, noting that the flight ultimately touched down without further issues.
Private jet operator Flexjet said it was carrying out an internal investigation and was dedicated to the highest safety standards.
This event is another in a recent line of concerns regarding aviation safety after spate of mishaps including emergency landings and technical malfunctions across major airlines. In a week where pilots and passengers alike have been on high alert about air travel safety, industry experts say there is no choice but for stronger runway safety measures to be implemented, in order to avert future near-misses.
