Meta Settles Trump Lawsuit for $25M Amid Renewed Ties with Former President

Meta along with its Facebook and Instagram subsidiaries will distribute $25 million in accord with a settlement reached with former President Donald Trump after his temporary social media ban following the Capitol riot in January 2021.

Today Meta announced through San Francisco’s federal court that Trump’s presidential library funding destination would receive $22 million from their $25 million settlement alongside expenses used to pay legal fees and compensate other plaintiffs. The settlement between Meta and former U.S. President Donald Trump does not force the company to acknowledge wrongdoing, stated company spokesperson Andy Stone.

The White House refused to give a statement regarding this new information that The Wall Street Journal originally reported first.

Since November election victory Trump achieved his second successful high-profile settlement. ABC agreed to pay $15 million to George Stephanopoulos during December as part of a settlement for his defamation case.

Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg shows indication of building stronger bonds with Donald Trump at this time. Zuckerberg took a prestigious position next to Trump at his recent presidential inauguration and welcomed him to a special private party afterward. Meta designed new policies which include the termination of U.S. independent fact-checking programs and permission for users to make transgender-based derogatory statements without fact-checking.

Even though Trump once threatened to send Zuckerberg to prison for election interference Meta now shows signs of strategic cooperation with the new administration.
