New York City police are searching for a suspect who set a 45-year-old man on fire near Times Square early Sunday morning. The bizarre incident took place at about 4 a.m. near West 41st Street and 7th Avenue.
Bystander officers driving by saw the burning man and extinguished the flames before getting him Medevac’d to a hospital. The man may have suffered stable injuries but burns to the face, neck, chest, and arms.
Law enforcement officials believe the victim had been acquainted with his attacker but have offered no other details. The investigation is still ongoing and the police is following all leads, a police spokesperson.
The victim, shirtless and bloodied, is shown being tended to by firefighters on the scene. In another video, he could be seen getting medical attentions inside an ambulance, his upper body shrouded in burn injuries.
This horrific incident is similar to an incident that occurred last December in which Debrina Kawam, 57, from New Jersey died after being set on fire on New York subway. Sebastian Zapeta, 33, has entered a plea of not guilty for one count of murder and one count of arson in this case.
As the probe goes on, the police appeal to the public to come forward if they have any information regarding the latest attack close to Times Square.
