Kuwait Released 6 U.S. Prisoners Including Veterans and Contractors The group arrived in New York on Wednesday, 12 March 2025, with Jonathan Franks, a private consultant dealing with American cases involving detention.
The announcement comes just days after a trip to the region by Adam Boehler, the president’s chief hostage negotiator, as part of continuing American efforts to secure the release of captured citizens. The State Department hasn’t commented yet, but Franks thanked Kuwait for it’s “generous humanitarian act” and said more Americans could also be released soon.
“My clients and their families are thankful to the government of Kuwait for its efforts,” Franks stated.
Kuwait government has yet to confirm the release which comes weeks into the holy month of Ramadan when prisoner amnesties are usual in Muslim countries. But the country’s harsh drug laws have fathered the arrest of several American contractors, and some families have claimed to be held the worlds largest narcotics abuse and fake testimony.
This latest move is the latest in a series of big-time prisoner releases under President Donald Trump’s administration, including just last week the return of an American teacher from Russia and a U.S. citizen from Belarus.
“Barring American citizens shows what is possible when the U.S. government prioritizes every bringing Americans home,” warranted Franks.
Identified names of the freed have not been published.
