Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba requested Odisha’s Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj to conduct fair investigation into the sudden death of 20-year-old Prakriti Lamsal, Nepali student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha.
Lamsal, a third semester B.Tech (Computer Science) student, had died on February 16 in her hostel room, triggering protests and unrest on the campus. The Odisha government has since set up a high-level probe committee and arrested six individuals with regard to the case.
Minister Suraj labelled assures by phone with Deuba as those against the guilty were to be swiftly peace action to be taken. He also stated that measures have been taken to ensure Nepalese students safety and resume their studies, at full speed.
On the other hand, around 95 Nepalese expelled students of KIIT have come back home via Birgunj border. Nepalese and Indian authorities are in continuing contact over kickback satisfying concerns.
The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu stated they have set up a 24×7 Help Desk to provide assistance to impacted students. In addition, KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta has given a scholarship in Lamsal’s name, condoling with her bereaved family.
As investigations are being carried out, both governments stress justice, student safety and academic normality after the incident.
