The reunion between Liri Albag and her parents came after spending 477 days in Hamas captivity when the 19-year-old Israeli soldier returned home. Liri joined three other soldiers who received their freedom on Saturday through terms established during the Israeli-Hamas ceasefire. On October 7 2023 the soldiers Karina Ariev and Daniella Gilboa with Naama Levy alongside Liri were captured during Hamas’ assault on the Nahal Oz military base adjacent to the Gaza border.
A critical point in the running conflict emerged as Hamas let its prisoners go in the Palestine Square of Gaza City before Red Cross vehicles took them to Israel. A number of Palestinian prisoners were released in exchange for those 200 hostages. Additional support for the peace process came when crowds at Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square watched live footage of the women being released on their big screen display.
Beilinson Hospital’s director Dr. Lena Koren Feldman reported that emptied hostages receive medical and mental evaluations while being medically stable. Exhausted but joyful army families shared relief surrounding their soldiers’ homecoming while others endured mix emotions because of soldiers who remained captive and missing soldiers killed among the siege.
The women’s liberation constitutes part of a framework for peace dialogue meant to resolve the conflict initiated by Hamas during their October 7 invasion. The ongoing deal process maintains uncertainty together with Agam Berger among other hostages’ experience of being detained. Family members continue to maintain optimistic expectations for their safe recovery throughout the next several days.
