Iran Unveils 1,000-Km Range Anti-Warship Missile, Warns of “Hell for Enemy Warships”

The Iranian state TV reported on February 1, 2025 about the testing of Ghadr-380 anti-warship cruise missile which achieved a 1,000-kilometer (600-mile) strike range capable of hitting U.S. Navy ships throughout Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman. The missile activates anti-jamming defenses while a sole operator can prepare and launch it within five minutes according to Revoluntionary Guard’s Naval Chief Gen. Ali Reza Tangsiri.

The Iranian “sophisticated missile” Ghadr-380 exists within a growing missile inventory of the nation that extends through numerous underground bases across territorial space and focuses on the vital Strait of Hormuz region. According to Tangsiri the missile would generate “a hell for the enemy’s warships” but specific information about its warhead and testing schedule remained undisclosed.

The Iranian missile development program began in the 1980s during the Iran-Iraq War to establish a defensive posture and it continues to raise worldwide security apprehension. Foreign allies with the United States consider both Iran’s nuclear ambitions and missile program as major threats. During the 2024 conflicts between Israel and Hamas and Hezbollah Iran fired hundreds of missiles towards Israel which Israeli forces successfully intercepted the majority.

These recent developments reveal the expansion of Iran’s military strength during times of regional conflict as well as its ability to operate across Middle Eastern territories including towards both Israel and U.S. naval assets in the Gulf region.
