Nasa astronaut Sunita Williams, who spent 286 unbelievable days on the International Space Station (ISS) has given a beautiful account of how India looks from outer space. Her observations, full of admiration and longing, have charmed space fans as much as Indians.
Every time we flew over the Himaylas, was simply magnificient. Butch Wilmore, my fellow astronaut, took some of the most unbelievable pictures. The scale of the mountains, the openness of the landscape and the level of the power network really gave India a lot of presence,” said Williams in an interview.
She said India was a land of mixed hues and texture where the Himalayas collide the large metropolis and coastline. “Basics & From Gujarat & Mumbai coast & fishing fleets to the heartland shining & night & India is a feast for the eyes when seen from space, ” she added.
Given her Indian descent, her view is all the more special, and Williams is delighted at the prospect of the Axiom mission which will also feature Indian Air Force test pilot Subhanshu Shukla. She also showed her readiness to assist India’s expanding space goals.
After being stuck in space for months because Boeing’s Starliner experienced propulsion problems, Williams and Wilmore returned to Earth aboard SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft last March 19. Now back in India she plans to visit India very soon, promising an enriching journey for space dreamers around the globe.
