India and China is entering into a “phase of recovery” of bilateral relations and a major progress in the normalization of relations, China’s ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the third China-India Youth Dialogue, Mr. Xu stated that the relationship between the two countries is “one of the most significant global engagements”. He underlined the recent Special Representatives (SR) dialogue and Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister talks as significant developments to settle border disputes and promote the relations.
The 23rd Special Representatives meeting and Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister dialogue resulted in such common understandings on boundary question and practical cooperation, Mr. Xu said. He stated that the agreements create a foundation in improving diplomatic exchanges as well economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
India and China had worked out an understanding last year to withdraw troops from the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, becoming successful in the disengagement process. After that, in December, National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval and Chinese Foregin Minister Wang Yi engaged in crucial talks in Beijing, followed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri for further talks.
Mr. Xu emphasized the need for **mutual respect and more people-to-people exchanges especially among the youth as both countries look forward to marking the **75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The progress aside, New Delhi insists that full normalization of ties depends on sustained peace on the border.
