The people of Greenland stated their opposition to joining the United States in data presented by the opinion poll which became public on Tuesday. According to the Verian polls ordered by Berlingske and Sermitsiaq activities found 85% of Greenlanders against U.S. annexation yet 6% supported it and 9% remained undecided.
An opinion poll emerged following Donald Trump’s renewed assertion that Greenland represents essential security ground for the United States so Denmark should give up Arctic territory rule. Opposition to this proposal stems directly from Greenland alongside Denmark.
Following talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen declared Denmark’s adherence to global border sovereignty. The Danish Prime Minister told Berlingske how happy she was that the survey showed Greenlanders want to continue their partnership with Denmark but through evolving methods.
On Monday Denmark proclaimed a major military funding increase in Arctic operations through an announcement of a 14.6 billion Danish crown ($2.04 billion) expenditure.
As an island larger than Mexico and home to 57,000 people Greenland operates independently through broad self-rule since 2009 until it announces independence through democratic voting. Prime Minister Mute Egede maintains Greenland’s independence position while he asserts that his nation will decide its own destiny without foreign sale.
Greenland plays a vital role for U.S. military operations through its Pituffik Space Base which detects missiles toward Europe and North America from its geographical position between these continents.
