Devastation in Bahia Blanca: Massive Rainstorm Claims 13 Lives, Hundreds Displaced

Bahia Blanca, the tactical port city of Argentina, has turned in a drowned out city after an unprecedented deluge dropped off a year’s amount of rainfall in only 8 hours, killing 13 and forcing hundreds to evacuate.

The one of the worst storm that was recorded on March 8, 2025 made the streets, hospitals, and homes drowning and leading to full neighborhoods were isolated. Two other girls, 4 and 1 years old, still miss and are said to have been carried away by the flood.

Patricia Bullrich, Minister of National Security, described the city was “ruined” as rescuers battled the clock to find the missing and children trapped. Eighty at least drowned in flooded paths, who were possibly drowned after being trapped of their vehicles.

Jose Penna hospital was forced to evacuate as the waters covered its premises, and images could be seen of medical staff carrying vomiting children to safety. The army is moving into support of emergency responders.

Rains of over 400 mm (15.7 inches) in just eight hours left officials to declare the event as unprecedented. The government has committed emergency aid of $9.2 million for reconstruction.

Though the number of evacuees has gone down by 471 from 1,321 to 850, officials anticipate further rise in toll as the rescue operations are on. Parallely, Mar del Plata and Buenos Aires was affected too but with lighter damage.

The response to160 was extended as Bahia Blanca attempts to recover, dealing with the aftermath of this devastating Nature event.
