Desperate Search for Refuge: U.S. Deportees Wander Panama’s Embassies for Asylum

Dozens of U.S. deported migrants from Afghanistan, Russia, Iran and China seeking asylum in Panama with no where else to turn

This week the migrants went to several diplomatic missions in Panama City — Canada, Great Britain Switzerland and Australia facilities.

Though they cried and begged, most embassies either ignored them or gave them vague answers so they felt lost for what action to take.

I however could hear when he said, “Please dont send me back to Afghanistan, where there is no way any longer to live like a human being,” a refugee from Afghanistan told Oakland Magazine where he lived through Taliban’s takeover in 2022.

Panama just last month returned nearly 300 people to the U.S., mostly out of countries that are difficult to deport in spite of ongoing development. Those they repatriating themselves or were detained for weeks in Panama´s Darien jungle but at the end of running with a month of leave, accused people.
