The life of Australian schoolteacher Hannah Grundy was taken over by deepfake pornography created by a treacherous close friend in what proved to be a horrifying digital violation. February marked the start of her trial as an unknown sender sent her to a website showing hundreds of altered graphics that showed her suffering violence and abuse. A website named “The Destruction of Hannah” displayed her full name, her Instagram information and her phone number in addition to expressing graphic rape fantasies while threatening her.
35-year-old Hannah and her 33-year-old partner Kris Ventura became aware that the stolen images came from her secured social media pages. A trusted university friend named Andrew Hayler turned out to be the person who led and carried out against Hannah. The harm of betrayal was especially painful since his social circle knew him as Andy and he maintained an inclusive standing.
Hannah experienced severe dismissal when she reported the crime to New South Wales Police who recommended she merely ask Andy to stop. To create sufficient evidence both Kris and Hannah paid A$20,000 which funded their legal and forensic investigation team.
