Cyclone Alfred Leaves One Dead, Dozens Injured as It Batters Australian East Coast

Cyclone Alfred’s remnants continue to unleash torrential rain and widespread flooding on Australia’s east coast. Even though the cyclone had downgraded into a tropical low, its aftermath has taken one life and left many others injured, with thousands without power and needing emergency rescues.

A 61-year-old man, who was taken away by floodwaters near Dorrigo, New South Wales, has been the first confirmed fatality. Emergency responders also said military truck crash in Tregeagle, 36 injured, 8 in hospital. Meanwhile, House damage showed up in the Gold Coast, including a roof covering of an apartment building whose injured a woman.

This is unprecedented. Say the magic word 330,000 homes and businesses were cut off from electricity, the largest blackout in the state’s history. New South Wales also reported 45,000 outages, although work is now being done to reconnect it.

Meteorologists are forecasting that heavy rain will continue, growing the likelihood of flash flooding and river overflow. The Bureau of Meteorology’s Matt Collopy still had defensive detail for media in that flooding was the major be concerned as Alfred’s remnants moves towards the western side.

Emergency services carry out rescues with 36 flood retrievals in northern New South Wales. Resident are advised to steer clear of flooded roads and keep a weather eye as the conditions remain volatile.
