Bangladesh Visa Services Resume in Agartala After Two-Month Suspension Following Protest Breach

The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, reestablished its visa and consular operations on Wednesday February 5 2025 following two months of service interruption. The services at the mission stopped on December 3, 2024 because protesters entered the facility during demonstrations against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The situation created increased tension which resulted in the termination of three police officers while Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mahamad had to travel from Agartala to Dhaka for official consultations. Mission security has undergone extensive improvements to stop any new interruptions from happening.

According to Md Al Amin, the First Secretary of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission services will restart soon through his official public notice while promising applicants efficient processing. The Indian government has made this move to advance diplomatic procedures as well as enhance ties with Bangladesh.
