Bangladesh Set to Welcome New Political Party Ahead of December Elections, Confirms Interim Govt Official

New political forces will appear in Bangladesh according to recent statements from interim government officials to Indian and Bangladeshi Ambassador Kevin Kelly. The new development takes place before the critical national elections of December this year while reshaping Bangladesh’s political environment.

The group of senior officials which Kelly met included Ahmed Nahid Islam who serves as adviser for Telecom and Information and Mohammad Yunus who serves as the Chief Adviser alongside Nahid Islam. Mr. During his interview for this story the uprising leader Islam announced he would create a new political institution to serve as the official representation of youth-based activists who led Bangladesh toward major changes in governance.

The newly formed party under Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement intends to challenge the political supremacy of both Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). According to Kelly the students demanded political power to influence Bangladesh’s future direction.

Under the leadership of Mr. Yunus the acting government works to rebuild democratic institutions while anticipating significant role from the new political party. Mr. Kelly emphasized Ireland’s dedication to resolve the Rohingya crisis during his travel to Cox’s Bazar.
