Argentina to Withdraw from WHO, Following U.S. Lead

Argentina declared its departure from the World Health Organization (WHO) which stemmed from its deep differences concerning health policy management and WHO governance systems.

According to Presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni on Wednesday Presidential order had been issued for exiting the WHO due to major management differences specifically regarding COVID-19 health matters. He criticized the WHO’s management of the pandemic by stating the organization caused “the largest shutdown in the history of mankind.”

Trump replicated his move as President of the United States when he returned to office on January 21 of previous year to pull America out of WHO. The two leaders claim that the organization shows insufficient independence because unidentified political forces influence its decision-making.

According to Adorni during his press briefing the nation refuses to let foreign authority dictate their healthcare decisions particularly regarding state sovereignty.

The main United Nations health organization WHO leads worldwide health crisis management for diseases such as Ebola and AIDS as well as mpox. Argentine officials stepping away from WHO raises doubts about its future support of global health measures.

Discussions have arisen about this decision since critics express concerns that Argentina could become cut off from international health programs yet Milei’s supporters embrace his position on protecting national sovereignty.
