Amazon power comes from more than just retail, increasingly from cloud services it has become the fastest growing company in America; advertising and seller services are also expanding at blinding pace.
AWS generated over 17% of revenues by itself, and third-party seller services (fulfilment and advertising) represented almost 25% (24.5%).
In an effort to stop Amazon from taking over, Walmart has expanded its third-party marketplace, fulfillment and marketing segments. Walmart+ the subscription rival to Amazon Prime, but these are still pretty minimal in scale compared with Amazon .
Increased competition is going to change everything, as Amazon gets close to weaponizing traditional retail with fierce competitive battle for supremacy over this industry.
