In a significant development in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case, Pakistani origin Canadian businessman and co conspirator, Tahawwur Hussain Rana has been sent to 18-day custody of National Investigation Agency (NIA) by a special court in Delhi.
Rana, 64, was formally arrested on Thursday evening as he arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport after being extradited from the USA. The extradition followed days after the U.S. Supreme Court refused his final appeal.
On Friday, Rana was produced before Special NIA Judge Chander Jit Singh in Patiala House Court in presence of tight security. The court okayed 18-day remand to the NIA, which had asked for 20 days to question Rana on his alleged part in planning the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people and injured over 230.

As per the NIA, Rana played an important part in plotting the attacks in collaboration with David Coleman Headley, who shared operational and logistical details with him. Militants believe that Rana habilitated his reconnaissance trips on the grounds of doing commerce.
Rana will be kept at the NIA headquarters in a high security cell at the CGO Complex, were the investigators are to delve into deeper layers of terror conspiracy. His interrogation is expected to throw more light into cross border terror linkages of LeT and HUJI militants.
Security is tight around the NIA office.
