Hands Off weekend, the largest nationwide mobilization against President Donald Trump’s administration since 2024 reelection, saw the streets of America turned into a sea of dissent as hundreds of thousands came out to protest president Donal Trumps government. Driven by anger over massive government cuts, corporate control, and assaults on civil rights, people from New York City to Anchorage brought the heat, as the movement got backing from former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Harris Stands With Protesters
Defenders of democracy and messengers of hope, wrote Harris in a viral post on X, who crediting the protesters as the loud assent of the people, “Silence the people, and the people get louder. Today, America is rising.” Her message resonated with the movement’s and broader public and society’s fight for Social Security, public education and reproductive rights—issues core to Trump’s ongoing “Project 2025” remake.
Coast-to-Coast Fury
With signs like “Stop the Corporate Takeover” and “Our Democracy, Not Musk’s Playground” held high from Seattle’s Space Needle to the heart of Washington, D.C., protesters directly targeted Trump’s billionaire advisor Elon Musk, who chairs a contentious new federal efficiency task force. In Los Angeles, a huge march paralysed downtown, and in Chicago, labor unions and activists came together under the slogan “Hands Off Our Future,”
Global Solidarity
The protests spread beyond U.S. borders with London, Berlin and Mexico City holds solidarity rallies. “Trump’s policies don’t just end up harming Americans – they harm the world,” said British activist Liz Chamberlin at a packed anti-U.S. embassy protest.
White House Dismisses Unrest
Despite the record turnout, Trump’s administration stood its ground. A White House statement called the protests a “left-wing spectacle” and reaffirmed its agenda, promising to “shield taxpayers from bloated bureaucracy.”
With the pressure mounting and midterm elections looming, the “Hands Off” movement has no intention of shrinking down—getting ready for a fight-to-the-finish in 2025.
