Grieving Parents Seek Closure: Call for Missing Indian Student Sudiksha Konanki to Be Declared Dead

Indian student Sudiksha Konanki was last seen from the beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on March 6 and her parents have asked authorities to “declare missing” their daughter in order “[to] get closure.”

CNN had contacted the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia, where the Konanki family lives, that confirmed their request to ambassadors around the world.

“consistent with the wishes of Ms. Konanki’s distraught parents…to accept of their daughter died accidentally drowned,” the office said.

Ms. Konanki’s body has still not been found even after the numerous search. The family plans to remind Dominican authorities at this time to let the legal process begin, as she was conclusively found dead with no indication of foul play.

The docket of Dominican authorities will decide this, and legal advisers point to the difficulty in certifying somebody dead with out the accessory of a mortal. The Attorney Julio Cury detailed that said declaration should be granted by a special order of Congress or the president,.

A University of Pittsburgh student, Ms. Konanki a Bangladesh national crossed over to Punta Cana on March 3 with five friends. She was last seen by surveillance footage at 5 AM on the beach with Joshua Riibe, her last known companion. Riibe is not charged, but is still carrying his passport.

The family of Ms. Konanki is looking forward to some of the legal closure and clearing-out of outstanding financial obligations as investigations continue. ” We fully accept what is a heartbreakingly sad reality for our beloved daughter who was swept to the sea : “Her father pleaded emotion.”
